I started volunteering with the SPCA in 2000 and with Manna Ministries (a food bank for the working poor) a few years later. Three years ago, I led an effort to build a partnership between the two organizations that helps people keep their pets when they hit hard times financially. We now distribute over 3,500 lbs of donated pet food to the working poor each month, in addition to food, clothing, books, and toys.
I can sum up why I like my job in one word – Opportunity. I work for Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. We are better known as Virginia Tech.
